How To Setup and Reset Homelink In Your Subaru

HomeLink with SubaruHaving a garage is one luxury that makes owning a house and a car that much better. The garage is the perfect place for your car, especially when it’s cold, raining, or snowing outside. Instead of having to walk outdoors to get in your car, you can just walk into your garage and be completely warm and dry getting into your car. Needing a garage door opener is one of the more annoying things about having a garage because either the battery dies or the buttons start to wear out and don’t work properly. However, with Subaru HomeLink, you never have to worry about the buttons wearing out or the battery dying when you pull into your driveway.

Subaru has made it nice and easy to set HomeLink up in any of their new vehicles. Here is an easy step-by-step process to set the system up to control your garage door or a private gate to your home or driveway.

Steps 1-3

The first step is to press and then immediately release the HomeLink button you prefer to use for the door. Once you release the button, the indicator light will start flashing orange. The next step is to put your garage or gate remote about 1-2 inches away from your Subaru HomeLink system while holding the open button on your remote. Keep holding that remote button until you see the HomeLink indicator light become solid green. If it flashes quickly, then skip this next step (step 4) and immediately move to the following step (step 5).

Step 4

Once the light has turned green and isn’t flashing, release both buttons and press the HomeLink button once more to ensure the door opens.

Steps 5-6

If, after holding the remote button, the light that should be solid green instead starts flashing at you, you will need to go into your garage and safely use a ladder or step ladder to get closer to your actual garage door opener and press the LEARN or SMART button on the bottom or back of the opener. It may be hidden under the door that opens to change the lightbulb. After clicking the LEARN or SMART button, immediately get back into your Subaru within 30 seconds and press the HomeLink button for 2 seconds, then repeat pressing the button for 2 seconds three more times.

Bam, your garage door should now open just fine with either your door remote or with the Subaru HomeLink system. Congratulations, you have officially done it. You can now go inside and successfully program a VCR… if you still have one.
